The holidays are here and so are Pumpkin Spice Lattes (PSL). It turns out that they are really easy to make. Best of all, making it at home allow you to dial-in the sweetness to your own personal taste.
Now here’s the surprise – there’s actually no pumpkin in a PSL – hence the name. All you need is coffee, your choice of milk, along with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. The amounts you’ll need are as follows:
Coffee (espresso): 1.25 oz or 36 ml
Milk (your choice of type): 5 oz or 150ml
Sugar: ½ teaspoon (or sweetener)
Spices (Ground):
Cinnamon: ¼ teaspoon
Nutmeg: 1/8 teaspoon
Ginger: 1/8 teaspoon
Steps:
- Brew and pour 1 ¼ - 2 ounces of espresso or coffee into your cup.
2. Mix the spices and sugar together and place them into the bottom of your milk steaming carafe or pot (if you using the stovetop).
3. Add Milk and steam to 70 degrees C or just under 160 degrees F.
If you don’t have a milk steamer, the stove-top will do – just use a whisk to stir the milk and spices together as you heat it. Heat to a temperature that is hot, but not boiling (boiled milk tastes terrible).
4. Add the heated/steamed milk to your coffee and enjoy!
Adjust the amount of sugar/sweetener to taste; and, if you’re feeling a little naughty, add some whipped cream!
