Guji Borderlands, Single Origin Ethiopia
Guji Borderlands, Single Origin Ethiopia
Our Guji Borderlands coffee hails from Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone, near the Guji border, at elevations of around 6,400 feet. This naturally processed coffee, crafted from heirloom cultivars 74112 and 74110, boasts flavors of strawberry, blueberry, and chocolate. With natural sweetness and versatility across roast levels and brew methods, this fruit-forward coffee showcases the unique terroir and exceptional quality of the region.
Flavor Profile
When we cupped this specialty grade coffee we immediately knew it was an Ethiopian from the first sip; that is, we immediately sensed hints of blueberry and chocolate, flavors most associated with coffees from this region. As the coffee cooled we also sensed hints of strawberry and a natural sweetness. We then roasted this coffee at three roast levels to compare them. Light roasts exhibited the most complexity, followed by medium and dark. All three roast levels produced brews with all of the inherent flavors, but as the roast levels increased, the sweet strawberry fruitiness diminished, increased body and a delicious chocolatey flavor with just a hint of blueberry.
